Tissue Culture Association records, 1940-1997 bulk 1946-1986

This collection provides a comprehensive understanding of how the association was run. The bulk dates for this collection are 1946-1986. Constitutions and bylaws, reports, questionnaires, correspondence, publications, membership information, budgets, and meeting minutes and other conference materials are included. The President, Executive Council, Secretary, Treasurer, Business Office, Committees, Branches, Divisions, conferences, and publications are all represented. Discussion on the proposed reorganization of the association in 1960, which led to the formation of the American Society for Cell Biology, is included in Series I. Materials from Executive Council meetings in 1947-1980, 1984-1985 are available in Series VII. Production and administrative information for the association's publications are available in Series VIII. Additional materials on the W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center and audio, print and ephemeral materials have not been processed and are not included in the collection's finding aid; please contact Special Collections for further information.

Organized in 1960 by members of the Tissue Culture Association, the Cell Biology Study Section of the Public Health Service, and other cell biologists, and led by Keith Porter; the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) was incorporated in the state of New York on July 31, 1961.
